Why is freedom of speech limited at the airport?

Last week a friend of mine yelled "shotgun" before getting on an airplane and was arrested. Shotgun is a term commonly used to get dibs on the front seat of a car, he thought it would be funny to use it on the plane. Why is freedom of speech limited at the airport?
